Tutorial: Blend Modes as Curves in Photoshop

Blend Modes as Curves in Photoshop

Martin Evening over at PhotoshopNews.com posted a tutorial today that teaches us how to express Blend modes as Curves in Photoshop.

Martin goes through it minutely, explaining every nook and cranny of the thing as he explains the relationship between Photoshop Curves and how all non-dissolve, per-channel Photoshop blend modes are equivalent to some kind of curve.

Of course, if you’re not yet very deep into Photoshop, this tutorial forces you to backtrack a little and read up on the concepts of adjustment layers, blend modes and curves but that will be good for you.

And if you can digest what Martin is trying to convey in this tutorial (which is quite longish), you’re very well on your way to becoming a pro on image editing. Very useful.

Martin is an author of several highly acclaimed Photoshop books.
