Toronto Star reports that its own photographer Peter Power garnered the top prize in the Eastern Canadian News Photographers Association photographer of the year awards, with three others in the Top Ten and 9 in the Top 20.

The ECNPA awards are determined on the basis of a portfolio of pictures, rather than just one or two. At the end of the year, a photographer’s “clips” or tear sheets are judged in five different categories each month.

The ECNPA represents more than 200 photojournalists in Eastern Canada.
