Tokina Introduces New AT-X 16.5-135mm DX Wide-Range Lens

Tokina AT-X 16.5-135mm DX Wide-Range Lens

Tokina announces their new AT-X 16.5-135mm DX Wide-Range zoom lens, designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sensors such as the Nikons D40 to D300 and Canon 350D to 50D. No word though about a built-in HSM motor; it might not autofocus on the Nikon D40 and D60 although the sensor size fits.

Its 16.5mm to 135mm zoom range will give the equivalent of 24.75mm to 202.5mm zoom in the Nikons and 26.4mm to 216 with the Canons. Maximum aperture is f3.5 at its widest zoom to f5.6 at its longest. Minimum aperture is f22. It’s made of 15 lens elements in 9 groups.

Tokina says the new lens offers the photographer a wider angle of view than most lenses in its class that start at 18mm. This makes the lens better suited for scenic and travel photography in addition to being a great standard lens for most general photography situations.

The new lens is expected to be available in June for the Nikon mount and in July for Canon.
