A 75-year-old woman in Karlstad, central Sweden is said to have the fastest Internet connection in the world, 40 Gigabits per second, able to download a full length movie in just two seconds.
Sigbritt Lothberg’s Internet connection is a fiber optic setup installed by his son Peter who’s a networking expert with the help of the Karlstad City network unit.
“We wanted to show that there are no limitations to Internet speed,†says Hafsteinn Jonsson, head of the Karlstad Stadsnät. He said the speed is reached using a new modulation technique which allows data to be transferred directly between two routers up to 2,000 kilometres apart, with no intermediary transponders.
Peter’s mother, new to computers and the Web, uses her connection only to read Web-based newspapers.
