SP-550 18X UZ Tops List of 7 New Olympus Cameras

SP-550 18X Ultra Zoom Digital Camera

Olympus today revealed a lineup of seven new cameras targeted at various consumer levels. Leading the pack is the 7.1-megapixel SP-550 UZ Ultra Zoom with an 18x super telephoto optical zoom lens (28-504mm equivalent); that kind of zoom gives you the ability to shoot telephoto, wide angle and macro, according to an Olympus announcement.

The SP-550 UZ sports a large 2.5-inch LCD and an electronic viewfinder. It offers full manual exposure control if you want to get creative, and automatic settings for those times when you just want the camera to decide for you.

The new camera – expected to come out in March at a price of $500 – has other notable features: dual image stabilization which combines sensor-shift image stabilization and digital image stabilization to help capture blur-free images; high-speed sequential shooting (15 frames per second); and pre-capture, which compensates for slow reaction times by capturing 5 frames of images before the shutter button is fully pressed.

The other cameras unveiled today by Olympus were the Stylus 770SW and Stylus 760, and four models in the FE series: FE-210, FE-230, FE-240 and FE-250.
