Sony Develops 24.8-Megapixel Full Frame CMOS Sensor

Sony CMOS Image Sensor

Japan’s Sony Corporation today unveiled its new 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor for DSLRs with 24.81 effective megapixels.

Claiming they have surmounted the technical obstacles for such a full sized sensor – propagation delay and the difficulty of maintaining uniform sensitivity and signal saturation across the surface of the screen among them – Sony says the newly developed CMOS image sensor combines unique circuit design technology with the company’s advanced fabrication expertise to overcome the challenges.

The company will mass produce the new CMOS sensor within this year. Expect new full-frame DSLRs from Canon, Nikon and the others.
