Sigma Readies New Lens for Sony/KM, Pentax Mounts

Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM Lens

Your Sony/KM or Pentax mount will soon be able to accommodate the new Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM (whew! why don’t we just call this the “wombat”) lens. This large aperture zoom lens for digital SLR cameras lets you get up close to the wombat without being bitten.

Levity aside, this lens has been available for the Canon, Sigma, and Nikon mounts for a while now, and Sigma promises to release the Pentax and Sony/KM versions by mid to late spring – just in time for your summer vacation to the outbacks of Australia.

Sigma says this large aperture telephoto zoom lens has a minimum focusing distance of 100cm (39.4″) and has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.5. It is optimized for digital SLR cameras but it does not shirk from film duties.

It is best used in close-up photography. Its new multi layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghost, which is a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance through the entire zoom range, says Sigma. The wombat lens, doesn’t that sound better than APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM?
