Sigma Announces 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM Prime Lens

Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM Standard Lens

Sigma has introduced a new prime lens, the large aperture 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM standard lens designed for digital cameras. It promises to create sharp images with high contrast and ensures superior peripheral brightness.

The company says this lens is perfectly suited for a wide range of subjects enabling outstanding, sharply defined images against a nicely blurred background. The fast, F1.4 aperture makes this lens desirable for use with digital SLR cameras. On APS-C size image sensors with a 1.6 crop factor, the lens becomes an 80mm medium telephoto lens. On full frame digital cameras like the Nikon D3 or Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, it retains its prime lens characteristic with a 50mm focal length, hence, its DG designation.

The new lens incorporates HSM or Hyper Sonic Motor which drives a quiet and high-speed autofocus even as it also offers a full-time manual focus override.
