Samsung today announced their new 8-megapixel CMOS camera module for mobile phones. That should pack enough pixels to shoot images with 3264×2444 pixels resolution, enough to print high-quality 8×11-inch photos.
Samsung says the 8MP CMOS module is about the same size of the 3-megapixel module and should easily be incorporated into the design of newer camera phones.
Whoa there, Sammy! That much pixels in such a tiny (10.5 x 11.5 x 9.4 mm) camera module? Why, that’s even smaller than the tip of my pinkie. Aren’t we asking for digital noise here?
