Ricoh Launches CMOS-Equipped CX1 High-End Compact

Ricoh CX1 Digital Camera

Ricoh Japan today launched their CX1 compact camera, touting wide dynamic range and a properly wide wide-angle zoom lens.

The CX1’s expanded dynamic range of 12 EV equivalent is supposed to make it possible to capture high-contrast scenes in a way not possible with earlier models. And its 7.1x optical wide-angle zoom lens allows a 28-200 mm range in 35 mm film equivalent focal length.

It has a CMOS sensor, powered by Ricoh’s own Smooth Imaging Engine IV; that’s what promises higher image quality and the wider dynamic range. It also features a 3-inch 900K-dot LCD screen. Price is about $430 when it comes out in March.
