Review: Yes to Nikon D80

Nikon D80 Best of Class

Canada-based Megapixel.net has come out with their own review of the Nikon D80. Their verdict: a glowing YES.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being perfect) they gave the D80 9.2 points on functionality and 9.6 points on photographic qualities.

Megapixel.net cited the following attributes of the D80: superb image quality, fast start-up, excellent 3D color matrix metering, fast autofocus, unlimited continuous mode at 3fps, excellent viewfinder and solid build.

The negatives: some noise above ISO 400, complexity of some Custom options, no PC terminal for third party flash, no RAW tools available with bundled PictureProject software.

The Nikon D80 is shaping up to be the best of its class. But don’t count out the others yet. Canon 400D and Sony A100 have their own unique attributes to offer. As for us, you can’t go wrong with any one of them; they’re all excellent digital SLR cameras.

If you want an entry-level DSLR with 10 megapixels, go check out the D80 first. If its price turns you off, choose between the 400D or the A100; feel it in your hand and try it out for a while. Photography-wise, you can’t go wrong with any of them. And don’t forget: there’s the upcoming Pentax K10D due out in November.
