Review: Pentax K10D is A-OK

Tech website ePhotozine has taken a look at the new Pentax K10D digital SLR and they gave it a “Highly recommended” rating, saying “this camera is up there with Nikon’s D200 and Canon’s 30D.”

There’s a little note on the K10D’s frame rate which was merely commendable, but it’s more than made up for by its Shake-reduction and dual RAW capability plus its weather-sealed body built on stainless steel chassis. Fine.

What about image quality? Does its 22-bit ADC make a difference? ePhotozine says “files produced from the camera in JPEG at the default setting are pleasant in colour without undue saturation and the settings can be configured through the menus to achieve any desired amount of correction of image tone, saturation, contrast or sharpness.” Pentax claims better graduation (it actually promises greater dynamic range) through this system, don’t you have a way to test it?

Inconclusive. I’ll wait for a deeper analysis of its 22-bit ADC (maybe from the folks at Imaging Resource and DPreview) before I jump with joy over the Pentax K10D’s image quality.
