Review: Corel Essentials 4 for the Creative Photographer Who Also Loves to Paint

Corel Painter Essentials 4

The reviewer, Lesa Snider King, calls it Corel’s friendly painting package for hobbyists. She writes, “Corel Painter Essentials 4 could be the most fun you’ve had in front of a computer in years (though you’ll want to spring for a graphics tablet). It’s affordable and the new interface makes it an absolute joy to use.”

CPE4 ($99) is geared toward arts and craft enthusiasts, scrapbookers, and digital photography hobbyists. It has a simplified interface that is based on a research by Corel on how customers are using the software.

The new interface sports two workspace buttons: Drawing & Painting and Photo Painting. Depending on which workspace you’re in, a different set of palettes appear specific to those tasks.
