Prices of memory cards have gone down. Oh, we know that already. But by how much? Here are the gory details.

The 2007 PMA U.S. Digital Imaging Survey reports that memory card prices declined again considerably in 2006. The average price of 1GB and above cards was $48 in 2006, down from $78 in 2005, a decline of 39 percent. In 2007 of course, you don’t need a survey to tell you that memory prices have gone down even lower. A 1GB CompactFlash card can be had today for just $13, a 2GB USB Flash drive for $21.

PMA said average prices and declines differed by channel. The average price of memory cards purchased at camera stores in 2006 fell only 13 percent, compared to 34 percent at discount stores, and 42 percent at online stores.
