Pentax Unveils New K-5 DSLR

Pentax K-5 DSLR Camera

What’s new with the Pentax K-5 DSLR? Well, there’s the brand new 16.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, for one, which looks to be an excellent one from Sony, not from Samsung this time. There is also the faster 7 frames per second in burst mode and improved video at 1080p HD at 25fps.

The K-5’s new 11-point SAFOX IX+ autofocus is also said to be better and faster than the system in the older Pentax K-7 model. Where the K-7 offered only a single-axis roll gauge, the K-5 now offers a dual-axis level gauge inherited from the 645D large-format camera for both tilt and roll indications.

The K-5 retains the K-7’s weather-sealed magnesium alloy body, and yes, the K-5 has also expanded its sensitivity range to ISO 80-51,200; 80-12,800 normal ISO range. You could say Pentax took an already excellent DSLR in the K-7 and improved it some more in the new K-5. $1600 (aaargh!), body only, when it starts shipping in October 2010.
