Pentax Rolls Out X70 Bridge Camera with 24X Zoom, Plus a New Wide Angle Lens for Pentax DSLRs

Pentax X70 Digital Camera

Pentax today rolled out its brand-spanking-new X70 24x zoom camera (they call it a megazoom, but there’s Olympus’ SP-590UZ of course with 26x). This is Pentax first foray into the ultrazoom market.

The $400 X70 features 12-megapixels, a 2.7-inch display, sensor-shift image stabilization and face detection for up to 32 individuals (for shooters who can’t recognize human faces). It also features 20 preset scene modes aside from P-S-A-M, a digital wide mode that automatically stitches two images together horizontally, and a macro mode that can shoot subjects as close as 0.4 inches (1 cm) from the lens.

Also announced today was the smc Pentax DA 15mm F4 ED AL Limited ultra wide-angle lens for Pentax DSLRs. The new lens will retail at $650.

Both products, to be showcased at PMA 2009 which opens tomorrow, will be available in April.
