Pentax is reporting strong cameras sales in its first quarter financial results, showing net sales of ¥40.85 billion or about $346 million.
The report attributed the strong performance mainly on the sales of digital single-lens reflex cameras, interchangeable lenses and camera accessories in its Imaging System Business which remained steady both in the Japanese domestic and European markets.
Year-on-year, sales of digital SLR camera and accessories grew 21.2 percent to 21.09 billion yen. Operating income jumped 1.25 billion yen in the Imaging System division, amounting to a 317.4 percent increase over the first quarter of 2006. Quarterly net income per share totaled 10.53 yen, up from 2.68 yen per share in Q1 2006.
Because of this, Pentax revised its yearly sales forecast up to 81.8 billion yen for the first half, and 170 billion yen for the entire fiscal year. Pentax also now projects operating income of 1.9 billion yen for the first half, while net income is expected to amount to 1.4 billion yen for the first half.
