Pentax 645 DSLR to Pack 31.6 Megapixels

Pentax 645 DSLR with 31.6 Megapixels

We first heard of the Pentax 645 in September last year while they were prepping for Photokina 2006. The specs sheet at that time said 18 megapixels for the Pentax 645 Digital.

But even before it could come out for prime time – after a longish development period – Pentax has upgraded the P645D to 31.6 megapixels, which clearly indicates that they are aiming at the Hasselblad market now.

Pentax is tapping into Kodak to provide the 31.6Mp KAF-31600 medium format CCD which is the same sensor used in the Hasselblad H3D-31. The Pentax 645 Digital is set to be exhibited at PMA 2007, March 8-11, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
