Panasonic Unveils New Entry-Level DMC-LS85 Compact Camera

Panasonic DMC-LS85 Digital Camera

The new Panasonic DMC-LS85 is an 8.1-megapixel shooter intended for consumer and entry-level use. It uses two AA batteries which are readily available anywhere (for convenience; but the real reason is: a proprietary rechargeable battery will make it more expensive than its current price of $120).

Two AA batteries will last you 270 shots, according to Panasonic. Make it more like 170 shots and it will still be good enough. Hey, we used to shoot with 36-shot rolls.

The LS85 is nothing to sneeze at, though. Its F2.8 quality LUMIX DC VARIO lens should be able to take bright pictures. It’s got 4x zoom too.

Add to that its new Intelligent Auto Mode (iA) which is comprised of four major functions including Mega O.I.S, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector and Face Detection and you have a good solid entry-level digital camera.

The Panasonic DMC-LS85 will be in store shelves in April 2009.
