Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 Debuts at PMA 2009

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 Micro Four Thirds Camera

Panasonic today launched the new Lumix DMC-GH1 Micro Four Thirds camera at the PMA 2009 photography trade show in Las Vegas, touting a 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor that can record high definition movies.

Panasonic explains that the new DMC-GH1 is called a CREATIVE HD HYBRID because it records not only high-quality photos but also high definition 1080/24p or smooth 720/60p HD (High Definition) movies in AVCHD format. Continuous AF can be used while recording movies, a feature lacking in the Nikon D90 and Canon EOS 5d Mark II which were the first DSLRs to offer video recording in an interchangeable lens camera.

The video advantage of the new GH1 is further boosted by its kit lens, the Lumix G Vario HD 14-140mm, which has been designed with video in mind. The 10x kit lens, which offers a focal length equivalent of 28-280mm when used with the MFT format, has a silent AF function during movie recording.
