Panasonic G-Series Gets TIPA Award for Design Innovation

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 Micro Four Thirds Camera

The Panasonic LUMIX G-series of Micro Four Thirds cameras has won the 2009 TIPA Award for Best Design Innovation in Europe. The award is conferred annually by the Technical Image Press Association, an independent association of photo and imaging expert editors, representing 12 countries across Europe.

In its citation, TIPA said “The Panasonic LUMIX G-series cameras are the first cameras based on the Micro Four Thirds system, and the world’s smallest and lightest digital interchangeable lens camera system. The LUMIX G1 and GH1 eliminate the internal mirror structure that defines digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, thus reducing the size and weight by nearly half.”

The GH1 is slated for release on Friday, April 24, in Japan touting not only high-quality photos but also high definition 1080/24p or smooth 720/60p HD (High Definition) movies in AVCHD format.
