OnAsia Images is a digital stock photography and assignment agency specializing in photography and photojournalism from Asia. Recently, a group of OnAsia photographers took part in training young people affected by the Asian tsunami as part of the inSIGHT Out project.

Masaru Goto from Japan, Suthep Kritsanavarin from Thailand and Patrick de Noirmont from France contributed training services in a series of workshops where tsunami-affected children were given the chance to explore their communities, their culture and their own personal vision through photography. The trio shared their professional skills and encouraged the young participants to discover the possibilities of creativity and visual expression through photography.

The training workshops were conducted in Banda Aceh, the worst hit area in Indonesia and in Phang Nga area in Southern Thailand where hundreds of people were also killed when the tsunami struck on the morning of the 26th of December 2004.

“It has been a fascinating and rewarding experience to work with these children. Their spontaneous approach to photography is exciting and with a little guidance produces some quite dramatic results,” explained Patrick de Noirmont, an OnAsia photographer with over 30 years experience shooting stories and covering news events around the world.

The InSIGHT Out Project will showcase the photographic works of the participants in an exhibit at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand (FCCT) in Bangkok from December 8 to 20.
