Olympus Announces Ruggedized Stylus 770 SW

The “SW” in Olympus Stylus 770 SW’s name stands for Shockproof and Waterproof but the company has also added freeze-proof and crush-proof as additional attributes of their new digital camera. We haven’t really tested it yet so we’ll just have to take their word for it, for now. But if its predecessor, the 725 SW, is any indication then we might say Olympus is right on the money on this one.

While the 725 can dive up to 5m underwater, the new Stylus 770 SW can dive double that depth, up to 10m or 33ft. It also has four custom underwater scene modes for photo shoots in the pool, while snorkeling or scuba diving.

It is crush-proof too; its stainless steel body and reinforced LCD panel is engineered to withstand loads of up to 220 pounds-force. Harsh winter? No problem; the 770 SW can still take pictures at down to 18 degrees below freezing.

And get this: the Stylus 770 SW has a built-in manometer, which measures water and air pressure, so you can wow your friends and family with the exact depth of your underwater shot or the altitude of your sky-dive or mountain shot. Cool.

The 7.1-megapixel Stylus 770 will be available in March for an estimated retail price of $380. What do you say, Pentax Optio W20?
