Nikon Now Number One?

BCN Ranking Logo

Reports indicate that Nikon has dislodged Canon from the top slot of the DSLR market. Market research firm BCN Ranking of Japan reported that Nikon showed strong sales growth with its D80, D40 and D200 digital SLR cameras, toppling Canon from its long-time position at the top of the DSLR sector.

However, the top seller among all DSLRs is still Canon’s Digital Rebel XT or EOS 350D, known in Japan as the EOS Kiss Digital X.

Overall, Nikon’s three models – the D80, D40 and D200 dominated the Top Ten chart. Even the outgoing D50 also helped in pushing Nikon to overall leadership in the market sector for DSLR cameras.

Sales for the Sony Alpha 100 was solid rather than spectacular, Pentax might have shown a better ranking if not for the delayed arrival of its K10D and Olympus did not figure at all in the BCN rankings.
