Nikon Launches Premium Coolpix P7000 Camera

Nikon today launched its high performance Coolpix P7000, with premium specs and matching premium price.

What do you get for $500? The P7000 hopes to be a back-up second camera for professional photographers. Nikon says the P7000 delivers outstanding images, RAW files too, in a less intimidating form factor than a SLR.

So, it’s equipped with a wide-angle 7.1x zoom NIKKOR lens giving a 28mm to 200mm range (35mm format equivalent), with optical Vibration Reduction (VR), two ED glass elements and Nikon’s brand new EXPEED C2 image processing system. Nikon said the large 10.1-megapixel 1/1.7” CCD sensor facilitates wide dynamic range and exceptional low light performance while the 7.5cm (3.0”) high resolution LCD (920K dot) monitor assists composition, movie making and playback in brilliant detail.

The P7000 will be on sale starting September 23, 2010.
