Nikon Chalks Up Record Profits

In a series of good news for Nikon, the six months ending in September 2006 (which is financial H1 for Japan) showed net profits of 23.2 billion yen ($197 million), more than double the 9.3 billion yen ($79 million) it earned in H1 2005.

This is on the back of 377.3 billion yen ($3.2 billion) in H1 2006 net sales, up 10% over the same period last year.

Helping boost Nikon’s financial numbers are increased camera sales, cost-cutting measures, an aggressive sales campaign and a weaker yen.

For the next six months ending March 2007, Nikon is forecasting net sales of 797 billion yen or $6.8 billion.
