With the Nikon D4 announcement, the company also announced the new AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G FX-format lens, described by Nikon as “fast, fixed focal-length lens with medium telephoto capabilities and a large maximum aperture of f/1.8 that is capable of performing a wide variety of imaging tasks with amazing sharpness and clarity.”

The new lens is designed for use on Nikon’s FX-format D-SLR cameras. The company said its fast maximum aperture is ideal for taking stills or HD videos under ideal lighting, in low light, head and shoulder portraiture, weddings or concerts. When mounted on a DX-format D-SLR, the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G has an effective field of view of 127mm.

The lightweight AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G will be available in March 2012 for about $500. Like the Nikon D4, the new lens will also make its appearance at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at booth # 11039 from January 10-13th, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV.
