Micron Technology has launched a 1/4-inch, 3.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor camera system-on-chip for mobile hand-held devices.

The Micron MT9T111 chip also integrates an anti-shake technology to combat blurring due to camera shake. The company offers several 3-MP image sensors in other optical formats, but this new sensor is the first in its class to incorporate a motion-adaptive feature to minimize image blur caused by camera shake and fast-moving subjects. Details and specifications of the MT9T111 may be found here (PDF, 1.35MB).

Microns said the new 3-megapixel sensor was developed on Micron’s industry-leading 1.75-micron pixel and integrates additional camera capabilities on chip including JPEG compression and image processing that would typically require additional chips. For basic operation, the sensor only requires a power supply, lens and clock source.
