Marshall Easy Go USB-to-IDE Adapter Turns that Old Hard Drive Into External Storage

Marshall Easy Go USB-to-IDE Adapter

Tokyo-based Marshall Corp. is offering its Easy GO USB-to-IDE adapter to connect an IDE hard disk drive to your desktop or notebook PC.

It turns any old hard disk drive you have lying around into a large storage device for archiving or back-up. The kit supplies a cable that plugs into your PC’s USB port and the other end has a dual interface that can connect either a 3.5” desktop HDD or a 2.5” laptop drive.

The USB2.0/1.1 to IDE Drive Adapter MAL-02 PAUB supports all existing IDE/ATAPI devices such as Iomega Zip, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM and IDE hard drives.

Here is how it connects:

Avid do-it-yourselfers of course can easily figure out how to make their own. The key is figuring out how the USB connector matches up with the IDE pins; as for the power supply, you can make your own or use one of those extra 12V connectors inside your desktop PC, there’s always one or two hanging loose.
