Majerus Wins International Garden Photographer of the Year

UK-based photographer Marianne Majerus is this year’s top winner in the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) photo competition. She wins the honors plus £5,000, about $7,720 US, in cash.

Her entry, Layered Landscape: A Moment Captured, is a captivating shot of a private garden in Luxembourg as sunlight streams through the trees to actaea, sedums and grasses, and the layering of the mist over the fields in the distance.

“This is a magical moment in the garden, perfectly seen and brilliantly captured,” the judges said. “From one corner of the frame a fan of sunlight slants down through the early-morning mist. The spiky flowerheads make another diagonal leading off into the opposite corner. The sharp foliage in the foreground makes a contrast with the hazy trees behind. Altogether a delicious picture.”
