Louisville Photo Biennial Celebrations in Kentucky

Louisville, Kentucky is holding the “View Camera Magazine Large Format Photography Conference” on June 28-July 1 at The Brown Hotel.

The conference is part of the Louisville Photo Biennial which is being celebrated this year with a series of 26 exhibits.

Ongoing right now through September 4 is the “Film, Plates and Camera Movements: Large-Format Photography from the 19th through the 21st Century” exhibit at the University of Louisville Photographic Archives Gallery.

This exhibition showcases large-format photos produced from negatives 4 by 5 inches or larger. They include daguerreotypes, albumen prints, tintypes and ambrotypes of the 19th century; gelatin silver paper prints of the 20th century and digital photos of the 21st century.

A companion exhibit is also being held at the Speed Art Museum through Sept. 16 entitled “A Large-Format Photography Primer,” produced by photo archives curator Bill Carner.

A new video lounge in the Speed museum’s sculpture court is also scheduled to play four works in a show called Promise and Loss dealing with issues of identity.
