After you’ve shot gigabytes of photos with your spanking brand new DSLR, you don’t download the pictures straight from the camera, Sonny; that will take you forever and a half. You use a fast card reader like the pros do.
Yeah, fast card readers like these two from Lexar. They’ve just announced a Firewire 800 version of the Stackable Card Reader and a new Dual-Slot USB 2.0 reader for UDMA-enabled CompactFlash and SDHC flash cards.
The $80 Stackable Card Reader is an upgrade to Lexar’s already-existing stackable line that allows for simultaneous download of data from multiple flash memory cards. The $50 Dual Slot Reader is fully compatible with SD, SDHC, CF and UDMA-enabled 300x CF memory cards.
To go with the fast card readers, you need a fast card too. Lexar also introduced today their Professional UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) memory cards, in capacities of 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. The 300x cards – with up to 45MB per second write speed – are 125% faster than the previous generation of 133x cards.
