Levels, My Boy, Will Save Your Colors

Photoshop Levels Command

How do you enhance a poorly exposed photograph? Or correct the colors that have gone wild?

Levels, my boy, Levels. In Photoshop you can improve just about any image using the Levels command. If you haven’t used it yet, that means you’re a complete n00b but that’s no problem.

There’s a good tutorial for you, freshly posted, at Photoshop Café. Colin Smith goes through it step-by-step, holding you by the hand, guiding you through the intricacies (naah, it’s quite simple) of Levels.

Understand its secrets and you have a very powerful image enhancement tool in your hand. In many cases, this is the only tool you’ll need to enhance contrast and correct colors.

When you’re through with it, come back for Curves.
