It’s Daylight-Saving Time! Please Adjust Your Camera Clocks

Time Illustration from Daylight-SavingTime.com

Daylight-Saving Time (DST) kicks in today, Nov. 4, necessitating an adjustment of clocks by advancing them one hour.

While gear that connects to a central system like cell phones, computers, and digital video recording devices such as Tivo, will handle the time change without a problem, most cameras do not, that’s why photographers are advised to adjust the clock in their digital cameras; it will be time-consuming to alter the EXIF Date/Time captured metadata later.

Accurate time is an important factor to ensure data files and e-mail get the correct time stamps. It is particularly important if you synchronize data files, because time stamps often determine which file is more recent.
