Indians Sweep Top Honors in 2007 WHO Photo & Video Tilt

The World Health Organization has announced the winners of the 2007 WHO Photo and Video contest “Images of Health and Disability” featuring the theme Health and Environment.

First prize, in the Color category, went to Pradeep Tewari of India for his photograph “Running” depicting a disabled child’s running legs framing the other healthy children in the picture.

In the B&W category, “Dive into River Ganges” won first place for Sudipto DAS of Kolkata, India, while “Playing” got top prize for Anupam Pal of India in the DigiArt category. In the new Video category, “The Mudcake” by Gaurav Chabra of India won first prize.

The photo contest attracted over 2500 entries in both photographs and videos from 56 countries and regions. The theme Health and Environment is both a broad invitation to WHO’s global efforts to raise awareness on the importance of ensuring healthier environments through powerful still and moving images and illustrations.

The theme for next year’s WHO Images of Health and Disability contest will be announced at the International Classification and Functioning’s annual meeting taking place in Trieste, Italy, October 2007.
