How Goes the Nikon SB-900 Flash? Good, Not Complainin’

Nikon SB-900 Speedlight

Photo Review Australia puts the Nikon SB-900 Speedlight to the test and examines its capabilities. Used in tandem with a Nikon D700 full frame and low light-capable DSLR, can you ever go wrong?

Is it too big? “Although it fits snugly on the D700 body, the SB-900 is about as large as you would want a portable add-on flash to be. The foot clicks firmly into place in the D700’s hot shoe and you can lock it in place with a lever just above the mount,” the review notes. Be aware, though, that the SB-900 shoe is new, it’s thick; it might not fit other accessory shoes.

In use, the review found recycling to be almost silent and very fast with NiMH rechargeables matching the 2.3-second recycle times claimed in the SB-900’s specifications.
