Hasselblad Releases FlexColor 4.7 Software

Hasselblad is giving us a shout about its new FlexColor 4.7 software. It’s for owners of Hasselblad rigs and it sets new standards for digital photography, Hassel says.

FlexColor is an image capture and processing software exclusive to Hasselblad cameras, and it does a few things no other imaging software can.

For starters, it implements digital lens correction which can now be done in continuous increments from 0 to 100 percent. Digital correction for vignetting (light fall off) is implemented as DAC level III completing Hasselblad’s development of digital lens corrections, which started out with correction for color aberration (DAC level I) and distortion (DAC level II).

The new version now also allows better sharpness with handheld photography by enabling a short capture delay after the mirror-up movement. This minimizes vibration during longer exposures in handheld shooting.

The Ultra-Focus functionality, which covers special sensor positioning and correction for aperture dependent focus position, has now been expanded to correct for the optical effects of light passing through cover glass and filter glass in front of the CCD sensor.

Using FlexColor as interface, the firmware of any H-camera body or HxD-camera body can now be automatically updated through the FireWire connection.

And lastly, the burst rate of the range of H3D and CF products has improved continuously from the introduction of fast Ultra-DMA handling of read/writes on the latest CF cards, as with the SanDisk Extreme IV, for example.

FlexColor 4.7 is a free download for Hasselblad owners. Now, that’s something to shout about.
