Hand Tinting: A Photoshop Tutorial

Photoshop Photo Effects Cookbook

There is a certain charm to old black-and-white photos with colored dyes to mimic real-life colors. Remember those old wedding photos of grandma and grandpa in which she had pink cheeks and rosy lips?

Back then, photography was done only in B&W but creative photographers managed to put colors in them via careful hand tinting. In our present day, this technique can still be replicated to add great charm to our photos. This can be done in Photoshop, and there’s a good tutorial out there on how this is carried out.

Photoshop Photo Effects Cookbook (O’Reilly) by author and digital artist Tim Shelbourne has a collection of real-world techniques that you’ll be able to apply immediately to your own images, whether you’re working on photographs or digital illustrations.

The hand tinting effect tutorial can be viewed here.
