Catching a flower bloom on video used to be a domain of highly specialized photographers like those with the National Geographic. Now ordinary point-and-shooters like you and I may now have the chance to also document scenes like the tide rising, a flower blooming, clouds passing by or even traffic movement.

Granite Bay Software has announced its GBTimelapse, a Windows application that can capture time-lapse sequences using a Canon PowerShot camera connected to a computer by a USB cable. The images are captured under software control, and the camera can change its settings as each image is shot.

Now, you don’t have to be limited by the low-res video capability of your digital camera. You can shoot each sequence in high resolution. Instead of low resolution you can capture high resolution images and create high-definition video files.

GBTimelapse works with all Canon PowerShot cameras that support remote capture including the Pro Series, G-Series, A-Series and S-Series but not some of the smaller SD Series cameras.
