The 2008 Fujifilm Student Awards will put the winning image on the cover of Ralph Ellison‘s 1952 masterpiece, The Invisible Man, when the book is re-issued as part of Penguin’s Modern Classics series.
This is a photo competition for student photographers using film, not digital media. All photo entries must be taken on Fujifilm Professional film.
The winner will be named Fujifilm Student Photographer of the year 2008 and he or she will also receive 100 Penguin Classics titles and a copy of the book, Seven Hundred Penguins (sorry kids, no Penguin edition of Happy Feet here).
The challenge is this: take a photograph that both captures the spirit of the novel and fits the new Modern Classics layout.
Judges will select 30 Merit winners who will be requested to submit a print for final judging. Each Merit winner will receive 10 rolls of Fujicolor PRO160S professional color negative film in 35mm or 120, one Penguin Classic paperback book of their choice and a copy of the book, Seven Hundred Penguins.
You may submit your entries now or wait until the March 31, 2008 deadline. Merit judging takes place in April 2008 and the final judging will be completed by May 2008.
And oh, this is for UK students only. The contest is open to all students aged 16 or over undertaking full or part-time professional photographic training, or full or part-time graphic design training of which photography is a major part at a UK based college or university.
