Flashes firing randomly

I do portraits on location. In many instances I have a problem with my flashes firing randomly. Sometimes and solve the problem by plugging them into another outlet however this does not always solve the problem. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I'm sorry you are having trouble with your flashes. I experienced a similar thing and found out it was a loose sync cord. Check that all of your wires and connections are tight and in good condition.

Often, outlets are wired backards (reversed polarity). For many things it doesn't matter. For strobes it causes a problem. You can purchase an AC Outlet Analyzer which will show you for sure. You just have to find another outlet unless you want to rewire it. I had considered making a short cord with a outlet box wired backwards so that I could plug it in to an outlet that had reversed polarity and it would switch it back to proper polarity. Hope that makes sense.

Do not put your cellular phone near your lights. When the signal from your sender is the same frequency as your cellular phone, your lights will flash everytime a message or call arrives or when you are near your lights.

On some occasions, static electricity in the environment will cause this.
This is apparently a common occurence with White Lightning and Alien Bees. I own these lights and was having this problem. They told me it was static. It seems true as it happens much more on dry days.
