Web browser Firefox 3 from Mozilla was released this week and it supports Version 4 of the International Color Consortium (ICC) profile specification.
This feature is turned off by default in Firefox 3. To turn it on, you have to do one of two things: download a fix (registration required) or follow Rob Galbraith’s instructions on how to do it.
Rob’s instructions will make you type a few text within Firefox, which should be easy enough for just about anybody who knows how to read and type. Ignore the Firefox warning about voiding your warranty; just click OK when you see it.
Why should you want ICC4 support in your browser? Well, most platforms and color management applications have now migrated to ICC V4, or are in the process of doing so. It’s the way forward.
You haven’t downloaded Firefox 3? Well, what are you waiting for; go ahead and install it. It’s the fastest web browser today (and the least prone to hang).
