Eye-Fi Gets $5.5M Funding to Produce Wireless SD Cards

They’ve been at it for a good two years now but Eye-Fi of Mountain View, CA still has to put its product out in the market.

Well, maybe this time…now that they have secured initial funding, Eye-Fi may be able to make their product a reality, an SD card that incorporates wireless capability so you can transmit your photos directly from camera to the printer or the Web.

Eye-Fi has secured $5.5-million (is that enough?) from Opus Capital and Shasta Ventures to enable the company to move forward. It plans to release its first product later this year.

Eye-Fi initially planned for a 1GB Wi-Fi SD card, which was big at the time they first announced it but now maybe they should go for at least 4GB or 8GB.
