Everplay Standard to Ensure Cross-Media Photo Playback

Major imaging players Fujifilm, Kodak and Minolta – who jointly own the Everplay Standard – have appointed the Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA) to manage the Everplay specification.

The Everplay Standard is an initiative of Fuji, Kodak and Minolta to ensure compatibility of digital photos and videos across a broad range of consumer electronic products. It uses the XML language to enable widespread interoperability, so that photos and videos may be accessed by mobile phones, PDAs, portable media players, digital photo frames and other consumer products not only now but also in the future.

Founders Fuji, Kodak, and Konica Minolta, finalized the Everplay initiative in February 2006 with a royalty-free license program, allowing electronics companies to download the Everplay specification v.1.10.

The Optical Storage Technology Association will administer the Everplay standard. OSTA has been known for developing compatibility standards for such widely accepted formats as the Universal Disk Format (UDF) for DVDs and the MultiRead specification for CDs.
