Eugene Richards Wins $50,000 National Geographic Grant

The National Geographic Magazine has awarded a $50,000 grant to noted photojournalist Eugene Richards for a project on the veterans of the war in Iraq.

Richards, who was chosen from among 145 entries, is the first recipient of the National Geographic Magazine Grant for Photography, one of the largest grants awarded in photography, and the magazine plans to award this annually.

According to the National Geographic announcement, Richards will be working on a project called “War is Personal.” This project will focus on the current war in Iraq and the impact it has on the soldiers and their loved ones when they return from their tour of duty. Richards goal is to further the dialogue on the Iraq war and its consequences.
