Dell Unveils Classy, Expensive XPS 420 Desktop PC

Dell XPS 420 Desktop PC

It’s been a while since desktop boxes were this expensive, but the Dell XPS 420 is a premium multimedia desktop PC with some bells and whistles that could resurrect the big bad boxes to be in vogue again.

It’s powered by Intel’s multi-core processors (Core2 Duo, Extreme or Quad, your choice), Intel X38 Express chipset, DDR2 800 memory and PCI Express graphics. Storage is 2TB.

The XPS 420 is designed to be a multimedia hub where you edit not only photos but also loads of video. This box promises faster video conversions with its integrated media accelerator. The XPS 420 is available with several graphics options, including some of the highest performing cards on the market from both NVIDIA and ATI.

The new desktop PC features the pre-installed Adobe Elements Studio, a Dell exclusive, which includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 & Premiere Elements 4 software as well as Adobe Soundbooth CS3 – to make it easy to produce a slide show, edit a family video or clean up audio recordings.

A very nice touch is the MiniView LCD color screen on the front top of the CPU box. The display takes advantage of Microsoft’s SideShow technology to show “gadgets”.

The classy XPS 420 does not come cheap. The bragging rights cost $1500, at the very least.
