Chuck Westfall’s Tech Tips Column Marks Year 3

Chuck Westfall, Canon USA

This month marks the 3rd anniversary of Chuck Westfall’s Tech Tips column on The Digital Journalist. He’s a Canon guy; he counts the 1D, 300D, 20D, Rebel XT, 1D Mark II, and the Rebel XTi among his gear. He also works for Canon USA as Director of Media & Customer Relationship.

But more importantly, he’s one of the sharpest minds in the industry. His Tech Tips column offers valuable insights on photography, especially for Canon users.

In his latest post, Chuck asks, “Is one Canon DSLR model’s sensor sharper than the next, or is it a function of different algorithms in the JPEG processing as the shots are written to the card? If one were to take the same shots with the same lenses, but with different Canon DSLRs, and process them all from RAW with the same settings, would there be substantial differences in sharpness?”

He answers those and then some as he offers answers to readers’ questions regarding manual flash exposure control with a Speedlite 430EX, 550EX, 580EX or 580EX II in slave mode, and a couple others.
