With global sales of DSLR cameras booming, Canon is planning to make more lenses in Taiwan.

The company will construct new production facilities on the premises of Canon Inc., Taiwan with the aim of expanding production of interchangeable EF lenses for single-lens reflex cameras.

Canon currently manufactures EF lenses at its Utsunomiya and Oita plants in Japan, and its overseas plants in Taiwan and Malaysia.

Construction of the new facilities in Taiwan is scheduled to begin this month, with the expanded production operations expected to commence in July 2009.
