Canon to Build $140.5M Camera Plant Next Year

The world’s largest digital camera maker, Canon Inc., is getting even bigger with a planned ¥15 billion ($140.5M) factory in Nagasaki, western Japan.

The new plant is Canon’s first new domestic camera production site in 26 years. Work will begin in January and it is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.

The plant is in response to growing global demand and is expected to produce about 4 million compact and SLR digital cameras per year; it will emply more than 1,000 workers.
