Canon is officially mum about the issue but it appears that they are quietly addressing the matter of the EOS-1D Mark III having some autofocus problems.
This blog says it’s a hardware problem and that Canon is suspending shipments of the $4000 pro camera until production fixes the AF problem.
Photographer and camera tester Rob Galbraith first raised the issue about the EOS-1D Mark III having autofocus problems in hot, bright conditions like covering sports events. In his tests, Rob said the Mark III simply failed to focus in many instances.
Canon said they will issue Firmware 1.0.9 to update the camera, but not in direct response to Rob’s complaints.
